Capitol 101: Aging Services Impact Day

Are you new to engaging with Missouri’s Legislative Process? This special event in Jefferson City will be held in conjunction with veto session and is designed for older adult service providers to get an introduction to the legislative process and discover how to make their voices heard.

Participants will learn the basics of navigating the Capitol, connect with fellow advocates, and explore the powerful role that senior levy funds can play in supporting essential services for older Missourians. Whether you’ve never visited the Capitol before or want to strengthen your understanding of state policy, this day is your starting point to becoming a confident advocate for aging services.

As part of the nationally recognized Falls Prevention Awareness Week (Sept. 22–26, 2025), MU Extension and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services are teaming up to offer a Learning Lab designed to empower professionals, caregivers, and community leaders in preventing falls among older adults.

Health professionals, aging service providers, community organizations, and anyone who is interested in promoting safe fall-free aging should plan to attend!



Join Natalie Galucia from the Washington University Harvey A. Friedman Center for Aging for an engaging introduction to Reframing Aging, a national initiative dedicated to challenging ageism and shifting public perceptions about growing older. This session will explore how research-based communication strategies can replace outdated stereotypes with narratives that highlight the strengths, diversity, and contributions of older adults. Participants will gain practical tools and language tips to help foster more inclusive, age-friendly communities.
